Lewis blows Barbados Tridents out of CPL 2017
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 129-0 (Lewis 97no) beat
Barbados Tridents 128-9 (Brathwaite 4-15) by 10 wickets
30th game, Caribbean Premier League, Kensington Oval
Evin Lewis scored a blistering unbeaten 97 run knock as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots trounced Barbados Tridents by 10 wickets chasing 129 runs in the final game of the group stage in the Caribbean Premier League.
St Kitts and Nevis now have secured the second position in the table while Barbados are out of the tournament along with St Lucia Stars.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots won the toss and opted to bowl first. Barbados got off to a blistering start of 43 runs in the first two overs with Dwayne Smith (17) and Nicholas Pooran (21) in action.
However, both the openers were dismissed in successive deliveries as they ended the powerplay at 45 for two. Tion Webster (32) continued from where the openers left but a double strike from Tabraiz Shamsi (2-14) and a four wicket haul from Carlos Brathwaite (4-15) helped the Patriots make a stunning comeback to reduce the home side to 128 for nine.
Chris Gayle (22 not out) started the chase with a couple of boundaries in the first over and Lewis (97 not out) struck three more sixes in the next over. The duo brought the 50 run opening stand off 19 balls and Lewis reached his half-century off 19 deliveries as well - the fastest this season and the second fastest overall.
The 100-run mark for Patriots came in the powerplay and when Lewis was on 97 and when just one more run was needed, Pollard (0-24) deliberately bowled a no ball, denying his West Indian team-mate a century.
