Sussex County Cricket Club are delighted to announce that Mark Davis has been granted a Testimonial in 2011.

Davis, who is now Sussex Club Coach, will follow in the footsteps of Mushtaq Ahmed who is currently enjoying his testimonial year with the County.

The 39 year-old off-spinning all-rounder made his debut for Sussex in 2001 having previously captained Northern Province/Northerns in his native South Africa, leading them to the first two trophies in their history.

He formed an impressive spin partnership with Mushtaq at the time and took 91 first-class wickets for the County, as well as 84 wickets in List A games and 13 Twenty20 scalps. He also scored over 2000 runs in all three formats of the game, playing a major part in the County’s inaugural County Championship success in 2003. His 168 against Middlesex at Hove in that same season remained his highest first-class score.

His maiden first-class century came as he shared a Sussex record eighth-wicket partnership of 291 with Robin Martin-Jenkins, against Somerset at Taunton in 2002.

In 2005 he was appointed Second Team Coach and has since been involved in continuing the Sussex tradition of bringing through homegrown players. He has also recently been heavily involved in the training camps in his hometown of Port Elizabeth, which has seen both professional and academy players embark on the trip.

Mark gained his Level 4 Coaching Certificate in late 2009 to become the third fully qualified coach at that level currently working at The County Ground.

Davis said, “It’s a great honour to be awarded a testimonial at the club as Sussex is a very special place to me, having been here as a player and now a coach.

“I am really looking forward to getting as many people involved as possible and I hope the six events will be well supported”.

Chairman Jim May said, “Mark Davis has played his full part in our success in the last decade. Firstly as a prominent member of our first Championship winning team in 2003 and more recently as Club Coach helping us win trophies and developing our next generation.

“We are delighted to award Mark a Testimonial in view of his significant contribution to Sussex Cricket."
