The spotlight was on New Zealand opening batsman Martin Guptill and West Indies' Lendl Simmons as they fetched the biggest bids in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League draft.

Sohail Tanvir (Guyana Amazon Warriors), Andre Russell (Jamaica Tallawahs), Chris Gayle (St Kitts and Nevis Patriots) and Dwayne Bravo (Trinbago Knight Riders) were all retained by the franchises for the 2018 season in the opening round while Guptill and Simmons were picked by Barbados Tridents and St Lucia Stars.

Retained players were awarded USD 160,000 while Guptill and Simmons were picked at USD 90,000 and 70,000 respectively.

A total of 227 overseas players and 121 West Indian players entered the draft. With 61 players already retained, 47 were picked from the draft process with each franchise having an 18-member squad.

Shahid Afridi (Tallawahs) and Shoaib Malik (Amazon Warriors), explosive openers Evin Lewis (Patriots) and Chris Lynn (Knight Riders) formed the marquee set while Kieron Pollard, who played for the Jamaica Tallawahs for the last four seasons was traded to St Lucia Stars for USD 130,000.

English trio Alex Hales, Adil Rashid and Tymal Mills failed to attract a bid as the tournament will be clashing with the Natwest T20 Blast.
