West Indies won the title in 2016 but they have not been in very good shape in the lead up to the tournament. However, the return of seasoned all-rounder Dendra Dottin will give more power to the hopes of skipper Stephanie Taylor of repeating their feat of 2016.
The team began the tournament with an abandoned warm-up match against Australia. In the next game against India, they came very close to a victory so much so that it was their match to lose at one point. But the Windies ultimately fell short by two runs.
Shamilia Connell and Anisa Mohammed were their most impressive bowlers and picked up two wickets each. Opener Lee-Ann Kirby was the top scorer with 42 while Hayley Matthews chipped in with 25. Their criticism though is that they should have taken the team over the line which they failed to.
Thailand enter the tournament with nothing to lose. It would be an icing on the cake if they can win one match. Their opening fixture against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain.
In the second warm-up match against New Zealand, the team suffered a big loss. After conceding 194 runs, Thailand could only manage 113. Skipper Sornnarin Tippoch and all-rounder Chanida Sutthiruang were among the runs. Sutthiruang also picked up two wickets in the first half.
Let's have a look at the squads of both teams:
