Matt Henry replaces injured Tim Southee in ODI squad
Southee bowled six overs in the match and conceded 44 runs before walking off the field and will now have further evaluations on his injured foot.
After recovering from a back injury sustained during the tour of Australia, Southee went on to become the highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets in the in the Test series against Sri Lanka in December.
Henry played in the first two ODIs against Sri Lanka in Christchurch in place of Southee and picked eight wickets at an average of 10.25.
The Black Caps coach Mike Hesson stated that the management is unsure of the nature of Southee's injury but is confident that Henry will be an apt replacement given his recent form.
“Tim felt pain in his left foot early in the second innings and was forced to come off,” Hesson said in statement.
“We’re not sure of the nature of the injury at this point and will need to find out more information over the coming days.
“Matt comes back into the squad having performed strongly in the opening two ODIs, so we know he’ll join us in good form.”
On Thursday, Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand in the third ODI by eight wickets to stay alive in the series which is currently poised 2-1 in favour of the home team.
