Matthew Hayden Rested From Bangladesh Series

Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden is to be rested for the upcoming One Day International series against Bangladesh in Darwin. Hayden played no part in Australia's tour of West Indies after picking up an Achilles injury playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and he has yet to recover fully. Cricket Australia's medical staff decided he would be best served by missing the three-match series and avoiding a lengthy flight from Brisbane to Darwin and he will continue treatment in Brisbane and aim to be fit for Australia's four-Test series in India, which starts in October. Australia are also missing Ricky Ponting through injury and Brett Lee due to personal issues but have not called up a replacement for Hayden, 35, with Shaun Marsh and Shane Watson likely to open the innings. The first match takes place on August 30th. © Cricket World 2008
