New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan will need more time to recover from his eye injury and as such he will not take part in the upcoming One-Day International series against Australia.

During the first ODI against Pakistan on Monday, McClenaghan was struck above the left eye while trying to pull a bouncer from Anwar Ali and suffered a hairline fracture.

McClenaghan was unable to take any further part in the match and was subsequently ruled out of the Pakistan ODI series as he needed to undergo a cosmetic surgery.

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson stated that the injury to McClenaghan is more serious than it was initially expected and is hoping that the fast bowler will be fit in time for the 2016 World Twenty20.

"It's certainly going to take at least a couple of weeks for him to recover.

"It appears that the fracture is a little worse than first thought.

"Hopefully he will be available for selection for the World T20.

"He has done really well for us in the T20s."

"It's a concern when anyone has an operation.

"We're confident that Mitch is in good hands."

Doug Bracewell was drafted in place of McClenaghan with in the squad for the ODI series against Pakistan which is now poised 1-0 in favour of the hosts after the washout in the second match in Napier.
