The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed Melbourne Cricket Ground as the venue for the finals of both the men's and women's World T20 edition in 2020.
The men's tournament will be played between 18th October and 15th November in Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Geelong, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. The women's competition will run between 21st February and 8th March in the same year with Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney hosting the games.
The semi-finals of the men's competition will be played at Sydney Cricket Ground and Adelaide Oval while Sydney will host the women's semi-finals on consecutive days. The complete itinerary is yet to be released by the ICC.
ICC Chief Executive David Richardson praised Cricket Australia for a professional approach and insisted that the success of women's competition has forced for a stand-alone men's and women's events.
"I'd like to thank Cricket Australia and their partners in Government at all levels for their commitment to the ICC World T20 in 2020," Richardson said.
"The ambition they have shown firstly in delivering stand-alone men's and women's events and then in the venue selection that will, I hope set a record for the biggest ever attendance at a women's sporting event, is exciting for the sport.
"Australia has a proven track record of delivering world-class events in world-class stadiums and we know we can rely on the fans to provide great support for all of the competing teams."
