LIVE SCORES - Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings Match 42

Punjab, Mumbai still in with a shout

Both teams have played 10 matches in the league stage of IPL 2021 and have won 4 and lost 6. Both need to win at least three of the remaining four matches and ideally all four to qualify for the playoffs.

While there were always doubts over whether or not Punjab would be able to qualify for the playoffs, Mumbai Indians are expected to bounce back at some point. However , despite the extended break, they have not been able to sort out their issues.

Mumbai's batting woes

It seems that a number of their batsmen have gone out of form together which is hurting their cause. The likes of Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya need to come good for Mumbai to make a mark. Suryakumar Yadav has also not been able to put in the performances that we have come to expect of him.

This is the reason why Mumbai are placed at the seventh spot in the points table, not a place they would want to spend a lot of time at.

Sharma, de Kock need support

Mumbai suffered another collapse in their last match. Chasing a somewhat par target of 166, the team was well placed for a victory with openers Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma adding 57 runs within the first seven overs.

Sharma was particularly aggressive the other night as he made 43 off 28 deliveries at a strike rate of over 150. Unfortunately for Mumbai, no other batter apart from the openers could even reach double figures and Mumbai ended up losing their last 8 wickets for just 30 runs to suffer a disappointing defeat.

Neesham or Coulter-Nile to replace Milne

The team needs to find the right balance which is why there is a possibility of Adam Milne getting replaced by an all-rounder. Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jimmy Neesham are the options that Mumbai possess on the bench.

If they want to go in with a batting all-rounder, Neesham is certainly the better option while Coulter-Nile has more bowling ability.

Ellis, Gayle and Bishnoi bolster Punjab

Punjab made three changes in their last match. The KL Rahul led side brought in Nathan Ellis, Chris Gayle and Ravi Bishnoi in place of Fabian Allen, Ishan Porel and Adil Rashid. This looks like a good combination and Punjab should stick with it for at least a couple of matches.

The team has all the makings of a good side. It's just that everything has not been able to come together for Punjab yet and they will expect a strong performance against a stuttering Mumbai.
