Warwickshire wicket-keeper/batter Michael Burgess has committed to the Bears until the end of the 2023 season by signing a two-year extension to his existing deal at Edgbaston.

Burgess joined the Bears on loan during the 2019 season before making the move permanent later that year to establish himself as the lead gloveman across all formats, following the retirement of Tim Ambrose.

The 26-year-old made his first Championship century for the Bears against Worcestershire last month and he has taken 63 catches and made seven stumpings across First Class and T20 cricket since joining the Club.

“With the gloves and bat, Michael has come a long way this season and we’re all delighted to see him extend his time with us for at least another two seasons,” said Warwickshire Director of Cricket Paul Farbrace.

“He’s looked like one of the best glovemen on the county circuit this summer and is now living up to his potential of making game-changing contributions with the bat, particularly in red ball cricket with his century versus Worcestershire and first innings 71 in the recent victory over Derbyshire.

“Michael is also an excellent character and a popular member within the dressing who has the opportunity to have a long career here with Warwickshire.”

Michael Burgess said: “Making the move to Warwickshire has proven to be a fantastic career choice for me and I’m very proud be able to continue calling this my home for at least the next two years

“There was a huge amount of excitement coming into this season and our performances in the Championship and Blast show that we’re making really good progress. I think we could be on the verge of something with the Bears and I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.”
