"Mohammed Shami got a mild left knee problem and had ultrasound-guided injection yesterday," he said.

"For his long-term management perspective he won't be available for tomorrow's match against UAE," he added.

Shami has been India’s best bowler in this edition of the World Cup, having picked up six wickets in two matches, at an excellent average of 10.83, effectively becoming the leader of the attack.

Having won both of their games against Pakistan and South Africa, resting Shami will give India a chance to try out players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Akshar Patel or Stuart Binny.

India, having played UAE twice before, will look to win for the third time and consolidate their position at the top of Pool B when they meet each other on Saturday.
