Mumbai Indians upset Chennai Super Kings in classic IPL encounter
Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bowl against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai today in the IPL.
Mumbai Indians 170-5 (Suryakumar Yadav 59, Hardik Pandya 25*, Krunal Pandya 42; Imran Tahir 1-25)
Chennai Super Kings 133-8 (Kedar Jadhav 58; Jason Behrendorff 2-22, Hardik Pandya 3-20, Lasith Malinga 3-34)
Result – Mumbai Indians won by 37 runs
Batting first, Mumbai Indians scored a competitive 170-5 with Suryakumar Yadav 59, Hardik Pandya 25* and Krunal Pandya 42 the top scorers and Imran Tahir 1-25 the pick of the bowlers for CSK although, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar and Mohit Sharma all took one wicket apiece. Dwayne Bravo was hit for 29 off his last over, which proved crucial later in the game, as CSK fell short in the run chase.
Some great bowling from the Mumbai Indians with Jason Behrendorff 2-22 , Lasith Malinga 3-34 and Hardik Pandya 3-20, left CSK needing 66 runs off 24 balls with only Kedar Jadhav 58 left, of the recognised batsmen.
In the end CSK lost their first match in IPL 2019 by 37 runs – a great win for the Mumbai Indians.
