IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians finally register a win in Phase 2
Mumbai Indians finally registered a win in the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with an easy six-wicket win over Punjab Kings at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
After electing to field, Mumbai restricted Punjab to 135 for six in their 20 overs and in response chased down the target in 19 overs with six wickets to spare.
Punjab struggled all the way through their innings. They were reduced to 48 for four.Then Aiden Markram (42) held the innings together very well. Markram shared a 61 run fifth wicket stand with Deepak Hooda (28) which revived the innings. The Punjab innings ended on 135 for six in their 20 overs.
For Mumbai the wicket-takers were Jasprit Bumrah (2-24) and Kieron Pollard (2-8).
In their chase, Mumbai struggled throughout. The innings was held together first by Quinton de Kock (27). Then Saurabh Tiwary (45: 37b, 3x4, 2x6) took over. Tiwary first shared 45 runs for the third wicket with de Kock. Towards the end Hardik Pandya (40 n.o.: 30b, 4x4, 2x6) batted with a lot of aggression to seal a win for Mumbai finally. Pandya added 45 runs for the fifth wicket with Kieron Pollard as the target was achieved in the 19th over.
For Punjb the chief wicket-taker was Ravi Bishnoi (2-25).
