Neil Broom to replace injured Ross Taylor for second Test
Otago batsman Neil Broom has been called up to New Zealand squad for the second Test against South Africa in Wellington following the injury to Ross Taylor.
The veteran batsman played just 27 deliveries in which he scored 15 runs in the first Test in Dunedin before a calf strain forced him to leave the field and upon further assessment he was ruled out of the second game at Basin Reserve.
Broom has played 30 One-Day Internationals and 11 Twenty20 Internationals for the Black Caps but is yet to feature in the longer format of the game.
The 33-year-old was recently recalled for the limited overs series against Bangladesh in which he scored a century and a 97 in successive ODIs and also backed it up with a 73-run knock against Australia in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy. However, he was dropped after scoring just four runs in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa.
Meanwhile, Trent Boult, who sustained a hip injury while bowling in the second innings of the game will be assessed in the coming days to know the extent of damage.
The second Test will be played between 16th and 20th March and both South Africa and New Zealand will be aiming to take an unassailable lead following the draw in Dunedin.
