Batting first, New Zealand scored 319-7, mainly thanks to Ross Taylor 90, Colin Munro 87 and Jimmy Neesham 64 who all batted fluently. If the kiwis had not given away four run outs, the score could have been a lot higher – the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka was skipper Lasith Malinga 2-45.
In reply, the hero for Sri Lanka was Thisara Perera who scored an incredible 140, batting at number 7. With 8x4s and 13x6s he so nearly brought home an unbelievable win for Sri Lanka. However, it was not to be and New Zealand won by just 21 runs.
