Newtown Linford Cricket Club has come a long way since it was formally started back in 1919 by about 14 members, with a sum of £200 left over from some First World War funds!
Now NLCC, of the Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket League, has over 200 members with the first team, captained by Dan Brown, plying their trade in Division One whilst the seconds play in Division Three.
We also operate a Sunday team, a Thursday League evening side and Under 10s, 11s, 13s, 15s & 17s; and for the first time in 2015 will be running a Saturday Third XI at Jubilee Playing Fields, Markfield. This will be used to attract more local players from the surrounding areas as well as blood our growing contingent of aspiring youngsters.
Our junior cricket, in particular, which has grown by 14% in the last two years, is critical for continuity purposes and will enhance the sense of community and support the role the cricket club plays in the local rural area.
There is simply no better place to either play or watch amateur cricket when the sun is shining than at Main Street!
These are exciting times both on and off the field with several large scale projects also planned but in essence, we all enjoy playing the game that we love at one of the most picturesque grounds in the country.
