England XI 318-0 (Cook 154no, Carberry 153no) v
Australia 'A'
Tour game, Hobart, day two

There was no play on day two of the Australia 'A' v England tour game at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart due to rain.

Openers Alastair Cook (154 not out) and Michael Carbery (153 not out) had batted throughout the opening day to leave England on 318 without loss.

However, the weather intervened to prevent them batting on, or allowing other batsmen valuable time in the middle.

With two days remaining, England may still decide to bat on, weather permitting, before giving their bowlers a workout.

England chose to open with Carberry and have Joe Root set to bat in the middle order with Gary Ballance as Ian Bell, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes sat out.

That suggests that Carberry is strongly favoured to open in the first Test in Brisbane, and his knock on the first day will have further strengthened his claims.

Root may retain his place in the side and bat at number six, returning to the middle order where he started his career before being moved up to open during the Ashes earlier this year.
