In the remaining two matches, the Proteas would look to give chances to fresh players in order to zero in on their final 15 for the World Cup. On the other hand, things are not looking good for Sri Lanka as it is difficult to find from where the next win will come for the visitors.
Quinton de Kock set the platform for South Africa with a 121-run knock. With contributions from Faf du Plessis, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo and Dwaine Pretorius, the team posted on a mammoth 331-run total on the board.
In reply, Sri Lanka did not start well and lost Niroshan Dickwella quite early. Avishka Fernando also threw his wicket away after getting a start. It was then time for rain to come down heavily after which the match was reduced to 24 overs and the target was revised to 193 and Sri Lanka needed 118 off 48 balls which gave Sri Lankan batsmen a very slim chance of winning.
After the rain break, Oshada Fernando was also out in the first over. Kusal Mendis perished after hitting a couple of sixes which knocked the wind out of Sri Lanka's chase.
Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi bowled quite well upfront and hit hard lengths with pace. Sri Lankan captain Lasith Malinga spoke about giving more chances to the youngsters while Faf du Plessis will also want to try out some fresh faces as the series moves to the 4th ODI.
