The Windies batters tried hard but due to the two-paced nature of the surface in the T20I opener, they were not able to get off the blocks quickly. As a result, their top three in Shai Hope, Chris Gayle and Shimron Hetmyer almost got out in the frustration of not being able to step up the tempo. It was the half-century from Nicholas Pooran which pummelled the score to 160.
Tom Curran was exceptional for England and picked up four wickets while Chris Jordan also staked claim for the English World Cup squad, with two wickets and an economy of just over five.
It was Jonny Bairstow who carried the England innings on his shoulders as the team was successful in chasing down the target with seven balls remaining. Joe Denly also played a sensible 30-run hand. Sheldon Cottrell was the pick of the bowlers for Windies and picked up three wickets.
Both teams are not expected to make any changes in their playing XI for the second match of the series that will be played at St Kitts. With the resources that Windies have, both in the batting and bowling department, it is likely that they will put up a stronger performance in the second T20I.
