The 100+ run partnership between Chepauk Super Gillies openers GS Raju and Gopinath did not give Karaikudi Kaalai a chance from the outset. Both openers raced to half-centuries, both going at a strike rate of around 140.

To the credit of the Karaikudi Kaalai bowlers, they did not allow any other batsman to settle once the top three were dismissed, with each of R Rajkumar, Sunil Sam and S Mohan Prasath picking up two wickets apiece. However, the damage was already done by then as the Super Gillies posted a daunting target of 176.
The Kaalai batsmen had to maintain a run-rate of close to nine since the beginning and that caused them to make errors. Their biggest hope, openers Srikkanth Anirudha and V Aditya, were both dismissed by G Periyaswamy.
To add to their woes, R Kavin and Maan Bafna fell victim to mix-ups in running between the wickets. Dev Rahul, G Periyaswamy and R Alexander were the leading bowlers for the Super Gillies, who did not allow Karaikudi Kaalai to break free and took their team to a comprehensive 54-run win.
