The record chase of 377 made by Pakistan against Sri Lanka on day five of the final Test in Pallekele ensured them a third spot in the latest Test rankings released by the International Cricket Council.

Having entered the series with 97 points in sixth place, Pakistan gained four points from the 2-1 series victory against Sri Lanka, which ensured a jump of three spots pushing New Zealand to fourth.

They are now 10 points behind the second ranked team, Australia.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka's defeat in the home series has costed them four points, though they retain their seventh spot.

In the individual rankings, Yasir Shah was the stand-out player to have benefitted from the series, breaking into the top five rankings for bowlers for the first time.

He is currently placed fourth, the only Pakistan player in the top 10 bowler rankings.

Younis Khan (829), who scored a match-winning performance of an unbeaten 171, is now placed in sixth below Kumar Sangakkara (874) and Angelo Mathews (860).
