Persistent rain abandons play on day one of Galle Test
Sri Lanka v Pakistan
First Test, Galle, day one
No play was possible on day one of the first Test between hosts Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Galle after heavy rains until noon acted as a dampener for a sub-continental affair.
Although rain halted for a while, persistent drizzle and an almost inundated outfield made even inspections difficult.
The play was eventually called off at 1.45pm local time with the pitch and outfield remaining under covers for the entire day.
If all goes well, play is expected to start early by 15 minutes on the remaining days, although getting the ground drained and making it match ready will be a tough task.
