Perth Scorchers bounce back to secure a 36-run victory against the Sydney Sixers

The Perth Scorchers have emphatically bounced back to secure a 36-run victory against the Sydney Sixers at Hurstville Oval today.

Match Summary

Sydney Sixers Women 147/5 (20)

Perth Scorchers Women 183/4 (20)

Scorchers Wm won by 36 runs

Scorchers skipper Sophie Devine put on a batting masterclass, notching up the highest score of the season with a spectacular 103 off just 68 balls.

Devine proved unstoppable, whacking seven sixes and five fours in what was a record-breaking high score for the Scorchers.

Her seven sixes took her career WBBL tally to 98 – the highest in the competition and two away from triple figures.

Devine made a statement before a ball was bowled, winning the toss and choosing to bat, intent on setting the tone for her team, and she delivered in spades.

The skipper was well-supported by Beth Mooney (60 off 44 balls), with the opening pair producing 151 runs between them - the fifth highest partnership in WBBL history.

Taneale Peschel (2-28) was damaging with the ball, taking the big wickets of Ellyse Perry (6) and Ashleigh Gardner (1) early in the second innings when the match was still alive.

From there the Sixers never threatened a composed Scorchers fielding outfit, finishing 36 runs adrift of the imposing first innings total.

The win will provide plenty of confidence ahead of Wednesday, when Perth and the Sixers will do battle again at Blacktown International Sportspark.

Speaking after the record-breaking day, Sophie Devine said;

“Today was fantastic for our group, we were really determined to put in a strong performance against an undefeated side.

“I was very pleased to contribute, but Beth Mooney was sensational again today, Taneale Peschel got two early wickets which was huge in the context of the game.

“The Sixers are an incredible team, we know how strong they are so the challenge for us is to execute on Wednesday like we did today.”
