Perth Scorchers suffer tough loss to Melbourne Stars by 8 wickets
The Perth Scorchers suffered an eight-wicket loss to the Melbourne Stars in their rebel Women’s Big Bash League clash at North Sydney Oval tonight.
Melbourne Stars Women 120/2 (15.2)
Perth Scorchers Women 118/10 (20)
Stars Wmn won by 8 wickets
Sent into bat by former skipper Meg Lanning, Perth lost wickets regularly and struggled to piece together a partnership of significance early in the match.
Heather Graham (29) and Megan Banting (18) combined late in the innings and helped Perth to 118 from their 20 overs.
Early opportunities were vital against a talented Stars top order, and leg-spinner Sarah Glenn looked to have opened an end when she trapped Elyse Villani in front of the stumps for 13.
However, the Stars steadied and were in control throughout the innings, as Lanning (51*) and Nat Sciver (33*) chased down the total in the 16th over.
After the match Sophie Devine said;
“It was a pretty tough loss tonight; Heather Graham batted well but as a team we couldn’t get a partnership going through the middle overs.
“The great thing about this tournament is you don’t have time to dwell on things, we go again tomorrow against the Sydney Sixers.
“Tomorrow is another opportunity, we’ll look to embrace it and put our best foot forward.”
