Player Interview: Pakistan's Shan Masood

Pakistan tour of England 2020

  • Two weeks in Worcester (our first phase) - after three months of quarantine in Pakistan - have been brilliant. I cant thank ECB, Worcestershire county - for allowing a two-day match, ground facilities, dressing room and gym facilities have been excellent.
  • Now we are in Derby in the second phase - very good start to the tour - once again bio-secure environment here.
  • After a relatively poor start in my first 8 Tests - I am keen to learn from my mistakes - give Pakistan a good start and win matches for our team.
  • Watching England-West Indies Test was quite interesting - we must not forget England was without Joe Root, Stuart Broad and quite a few world-class players - we are studying both team.
  • In the lockdown months, all our players worked hard on their physical condition and their cricket skills to are coming to the fore - we have three weeks to be at our best.
  • Every match of the World Test Championship is crucial and we are happy to have a squad of 29 players to make the right choices.
  • England were playing for the first time since their series in South Africa - about seven months ago - too early to over analyse their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Health first precautions are needed with covid-19 and we are very lucky to represent Pakistan in the game we love amidst so much suffering.
  • Even with back-to-back hundreds against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, it will be a fresh start to resume playing red ball Test cricket.
  • No extra pressure to prove a point.
  • Both Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan - are travelling in coaching capacity - but still train and practice with us. Younis Khan is helping us all, including teh lower order batsmen, whose contribution can prove vital.
  • England will have played three Tests by the time 5th August arrives - Yes an advantage for the home side - our preparation will allow us to be competitive all the way.
  • The videos of Younis Khan, Mohammad Youuf, Saeed Anwar etc. scoring hundreds in England, are very useful to study.
  • AN extra review to compensate for the absence of neutral umpires is a good move.
