2016 ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier – East Asia-Pacific, game five
Papua New Guinea Women ended the 2016 ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier – East Asia-Pacific undefeated after beating Japan by eight wickets to make it four wins out of four.
Having already booked their place in the global qualifier for next year's Women's World Cup by winning their first three games, PNG completed a perfect tournament with an eight-wicket win on the Duckworth/Lewis method over Japan.
Japan reached 105 for nine from their 50 overs before PNG were set a revised target of 88 to win in 33 overs and they duly got home in 25.1 overs.
Japan won the toss and batted first but slipped to 15 for four early on and struggled to recover despite Etsuko Kobayashi's 31 not out.
Mairi Tom, Veru Kili Frank and Ravini Oa all took two wickets for PNG.
Heavy rain during the lunch break reduced PNG's innings to a maximum of 33 overs and they were asked to chase 88 as a result.
They lost two early wickets but thereafter were untroubled and Konio Oala guided them home with 52 not out.
The final game of the tournament sees Japan take on Samoa tomorrow (22nd July).
