Pollard's maiden T20 ton brings relief for St Lucia Stars
Finally, after a string of 15 failures, the fans’ trust and support for the St Lucia Stars paid off as they beat Barbados Tridents by a comfortable 38-run margin.
For all that the Stars tried, there was something or the other which was not allowing them to put up a complete show. When the batters put runs on the board, as they did most times, the bowlers let them down. When the bowlers were able to work their magic, the batsmen lost their way. And when, both clicked, the fielders gave it away.
Batting first, Andre Fletcher began in dominant fashion for St Lucia Stars, blasting 80 off just 52 deliveries. Rahkeem Cornwall played a blitzing cameo of 30 from 11 balls. However, Kieron Pollard reserved the best with his maiden T20 hundred that took the Stars to a place of comfort, with 226 on the board.
The chase of the Barbados Tridents lacked the fizz needed to chase down such a big total. Opener Dwayne Smith scored a half-century but it was too slow to do the team any good. Twenties from Nicholas Pooran, Steve Smith and Shai Hope fell way short of taking Tridents to their desired goal.
Obed McCoy bagged three wickets while Qais Ahmad picked two to foil the Tridents’ chase and take their team to their first victory of CPL 2018 in five matches.
