Ponting Helps Australia Saunter Past England

Captain Ricky Ponting hit 86 to lead a dominant Australia to a seven-wicket win over struggling England in the World Cup Super Eights on Sunday. Kevin Pietersen struck 104 in England's modest 247 all out but Australia reached their target with 16 balls to spare to severely damage their old rivals' chances of making the semi-finals. Michael Clarke also made a half-century for the defending champions, who are on course to finish top of the Super Eights table. England must win their three remaining second stage games against Bangladesh, South Africa and hosts West Indies to have a good chance of progressing to the last four. © Reuters 2007
