PSL 2018: Match 8 - Karachi Kings v Lahore Qalandars Preview
Lahore Qalandars will be desperately hoping to get their campaign back on track when they face Karachi Kings in the eighth game of the Pakistan Super League at Dubai International Stadium on Monday.
Despite possessing one of the formidable bowling attacks in the tournament, they failed to make an impression. The likes of Sunil Narine, Yasir Shah and Mustafizur Rahman can walk into any T20 side but it is the batting department that has looked a let down and the absence of Chris Lynn even before the tournament started hasn't helped their cause either. Brendon McCullum did look good in the second game against Quetta Gladiators and he got the team off to a terrific start of 46 runs in just 3.3 overs along with Sunil Narine but the fact that the middle order comprising of Fakhar Zaman, Cameron Delport and Umar Akmal failed to capitalise on it losing eight wickets for just 79 runs hasn't gone well with the team's cause as they languish at the bottom of the table. Having been the only team to have missed out on play-off on both the seasons, Lahore will be desperately hoping for a turnaround.
The only team to remain unbeaten in the tournament despite their batting not clicking collectively. On both the games, Colin Ingram provided impetus in the middle phase while the likes of Ravi Bopara, Joe Denly, Khurram Manzoor and Babar Azam have looked good in parts without threatening the opposition but despite that they went on win both the games with Imad Wasim, their new leader along with Mohammad Amir, Tymal Mills and Shahid Afridi delivering the goods. A win on Monday can separate them from the rest and they have a good chance to do so against Lahore Qalandars, who are still pondering on the right combination.
Head to Head Record:
The two teams have faced each other four times with Karachi Kings winning three and Lahore managed a solitary victory that came in the previous season.
Battle to Watch Out For:
Brendon McCullum v Mohammad Amir: Both the players known to make an impact in the early stage of the game. McCullum showed the extent of damage he can do against Quetta and if Amir manage to knock down the former Blackcaps skipper then Lahore will be put under considerable pressure.
