IPL 2022 Match 38: Punjab prove that they are Dhawan as Chennai loses again

Punjab Kings kept their chances of making the playoff of the IPL 2022 with a 11-run win over Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday night.

Earlier, asked to bat Punjab posted 187 for four in their 20 overs and in their response, Chennai finished on 176 for six in their 20 overs.

Punjab got off to a fine start through their captain Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan. Then Dhawan teamed up with Bhanuka Rajapaksa as they put on 110 runs for the second wicket. Rajapaksa fell for 42 off 32 balls with two boundaries and two sixes. Then Dhawan carried on as he added crucial runs with the other batters. Dhawan remained unbeaten on 88 off 59 balls with nine boundaries and two sixes. Punjab ended on 187 for four in their 20 overs.

For Chennai the best bowler was Dwayne Bravo (2-42).

The chase for Chennai did not take off. Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad added 49 runs for the fourth wicket with Ambati Rayudu. But after Gaikwad fell for 30. Then Rayudu took charge of the chase with captain Ravindra Jadeja as they added 64 runs for the fifth wicket. Rayudu was dismissed for 78 off 39 balls with seven boundaries and six sixes. But the chase did not take off as Chennai needed 27 in the last over. MS Dhoni could not repeat his heroics from the previous game as comeback man Rishi Dhawan held his nerves. In the end Chennai finished on 176 for six in their 20 overs. For Punjab the best bowlers were Kagiso Rabada (2-23) and Dhawan (2-39).
