Rain cuts short Day 2 of Sri Lanka-New Zealand 2nd Test after Boult and Southee shine

A total of 114 overs have been already lost in the match but due to the conditions being conducive for bowling, even if we get half of game time on the three remaining days, we have a match on our hands.

The overnight unbeaten batsmen Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews started the proceedings for Sri Lanka on day 2. Soon after, Mathews nicked one to wicketkeeper BJ Watling off Trent Boult.

In the same over, Boult trapped Kusal Perera in front of the wickets for nought. Dimuth Karunaratne and Dhananjaya de Silva then had a 37-run partnership but Karunaratne and dangerous lower-middle order batsman Niroshan Dickwella were dismissed by Tim Southee in the same over, both caught by wicketkeeper BJ Watling.

Dhananjaya de Silva was lucky to get a life and remains at the crease on 32 along with Dilruwan Perera.



The rain came down heavily just before the end of the morning session and the umpires took an early Lunch. However, play could not be resumed after that as the rain did not relent and play was called off.
