Rain plays spoilsport in Barbados, Jamaica CPL clash
An entertaining contest between Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbados Tridents ended as a no result after persistent rain ensured a washout in the 12th match of the Caribbean Premier League in Barbados.
In the 10 overs that were possible, Jamaica Tallawahs scored 116 for two with Chris Gayle entertaining with an unbeaten 20-ball 47.
Barbados Tridents won the toss and opted to field. Soon after the toss the heavy rain poured down, delaying the start of the game for more than two hours.
When the game resumed, it was reduced to a 12-overs per side. Chadwick Walton (25) and Gayle (47 not out) played positively and took Jamaica Tallawahs to 34 for naught by the end of the four-over powerplay.
Walton fell in the sixth over but Kumar Sangakkara (25) wasted no time in getting underway. The former Sri Lankan skipper scored 16 runs rom the eighth over while Gayle smashed three sixes in the ninth.
Sangakkara fell in the 10th over castled by Ravi Rampaul (1-25). With the score at 116 for two after 10 overs, the rain returned once again and it was a heavy downpour.
Eventually, the umpires called off the game due to the weather. Both Barbados Tridents and Jamaica Tallawahs shared a point each.
