After several weeks of glorious weather, a wet weekend caused havoc across the Cheshire County league with only Sale 1st XI’s match at Timperley reaching a conclusion.

Early morning rain caused a delayed start at Stockport Road and a match reduced to 34 overs per side.

In shortened games the toss tends to become crucial, and so it proved as Sale skipper Tyrone Lawrence called incorrectly and was asked to bat first.

Sale got off to a slow start, losing both openers for 23.

Dan Newton then added 39 off 40 balls and Gareth Davies 33 to take the score to 117 for 5.

Sam Battersby then took Sale through to 177-7 at the close with a run-a-ball 49.

Despite the earl loss of former Salian Viraj Sorathia for 2, Timperley reached their target with relative ease thanks to 79 not out from Johan Hams and 65 from Jonathan Fletcher.

Sale picked up 9 points.

No start was possible at Dane Road as Sale 2nd XI against Bowdon was washed out.

Sale 3rd XI were in a strong position against Toft on Sunday when the rain intervened.

Theo Brodbeck had taken 4-12 off 4 overs to reduce the visitors to 28-5 when the heavens opened after 9 overs.

The 4th XI only managed 1.2 overs at Lymm Oughtrington Park before the match was abandoned.

Earlier in the week Sale Silverbacks lost a high scoring game against Grappenhall.

Nigel Bellamy took 2 wickets as Grappers posted a challenging 159-6.

The Silverbacks fell just 2 runs short, Asad Khan (31), Mike Bishop (30) and Amjad Khan (26) all retiring.

On Saturday Sale play a double header against Cheadle. The 1st XI’s meeting at Dane Road and the 2nd XI fixture at Kingsway.
