Rohit Sharma says Sachin Tendulkar is the perfect role model
Tendulkar, who announced his retirement from the game in November 2013 was arguably the finest modern day batsman and also holds the record for most number of runs in Tests and One-Day Internationals.
In an Unscriptd video, Sharma goes on to elaborate that Tendulkar has been his idol since childhood especially due to the excellent dedication the 42-year-old showed towards the game.
“My cricket idol has always been Sachin Tendulkar. Just because of his sheer determination and his dedication towards the game and he comes from the same place as I (do).
“While growing up as a kid, I’ve always looked upon him.”
Between 1989 and 2013, Tendulkar enjoyed a stellar international career and currently holds a slew of batting records in the game including being the first player to hit a double hundred in ODIs.
Sharma feels that Tendulkar has achieved everything he wanted to in International cricket and it is one of the reasons that makes him a great role model for everybody in the game.
“The kind of stuff he did when he was young to get to where he is today right now, he is a perfect role model for everyone in our country.
“That is one of the reason I follow his cricket and I followed his cricket when I was growing up as a kid.
“He’s accomplished everything he wanted to in international cricket, that is what I feel and he is a perfect role model for us.”
Apart from Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, Sharma is the only other Indian batsman to have scored a double century in ODIs – a feat he has achieved not once, but on two occasions.
