Root among the best in the World - Andrew Gale
Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale reckons that his teammate Joe Root is among the best players in the world right now.
Root compiled his second One-Day International century of the ongoing series against New Zealand on Wednesday in England’s record chase of 350 and Gale heaped praises on the 24-year-old.
“At this moment of time he’s right up there.
“He’s so consistent and England can rely on him.”
Such has been Root’s prolific form that he has rattled up over 2800 runs since January 2014 spread across all formats with 10 centuries and 12 fifties to his name.
Gale feels that the England vice-captain’s ability to soak in the pressure at such a tender age shows the latter’s extreme mental strength.
“For a lad who’s just 23-24 years old to take that pressure, that weight on his shoulders shows how good he really is.”
The 31-year-old Gale also stated that there was a constant improvement in Root’s batting which is a really good sign for England.
“There are players who’re ahead of him like De Villiers, Chris Gayle but the way he’s played with confidence is really good to watch.
“He’s going from strength to strength all the time.”
Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara and New Zealand's Kane Williamson are the only batsmen to score more runs than Root over the last 18 months across all formats.
