Batsman Ross Taylor has been ruled out of the ongoing New Zealand tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa after undergoing minor surgery to treat a groin injury, which he picked up in training on Thursday.

Taylor did not take part in the series clinching victory in the third One Day International, with Jimmy Neesham taking his place in the playing 11.

In a press release, New Zealand Cricket confirmed that there will be no replacement called up for Ross Taylor, who will now return home.

This latest development means that New Zealand will play against South Africa without as many as five front line players – Taylor, Brendon McCullum (rested), Tim Southee (rested), Trent Boult and Corey Anderson (both injured).

The 38-run victory in the third and final ODI resulted in a 2-1 series victory for New Zealand, with captain, Kane Williamson picked as the player of the match and the series.

New Zealand will play the lone Twenty20 International against Zimbabwe on 9th August in Harare, before heading to South Africa to play two T20Is and three ODIs.
