Round up of the third day’s play in the SpecSavers County Championship Division 2 matches – Kent v Warwickshire, Leicestershire v Middlesex, Sussex v Durham, Glamorgan v Derbyshire, Northamptonshire v Gloucestershire.

Surrey inflict heavy defeat on Somerset by an innings and 69 runs

Somerset were forced to follow on and were 18-0 at the start of day three, trailing Surrey by 261 runs with 10 wickets remaining.

Surrey 459 (Rory Burns 66, Scott Borthwick 83, Ollie Pope 117; Tim Groenewald 4-78)

Somerset 180 ( Edward Byrom 52;Ryan Patel 6-5, Rikki Clarke 4-32) and 210 (James Hildreth 89*; Jade Dernbach 4-49, Morne Morkel 4-36)

Some fine pace bowling from Jade Dernbach 4-49 and Morne Morkel 4-36 wrapped up this match for Surrey, winning by an innings and 69 runs. Only James Hildreth 89* stood out for Somerset in the second innings.

Surrey now go top of the Division 1 Table.

Essex v Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire were 35-1 overnight, with a lead of 209 runs over Essex, with 9 wickets remaining.

Nottinghamshire 380 (Ross Taylor 146, Chris Nash 51; Simon Harmer 4-78)  & 266 (Jake Libby 51, Tom Moores 87; Matthew Quinn 3-23)

Essex 206 ( Ravi Bopara 69; Luke Fletcher 4-43, Matt Carter 4-34) & 88-4

Nottinghamshire battled to 266 all out with Jake Libby 51 and Tom Moores 87 the mainstay of their 2nd innings.  Matthew Quinn (3-23) was the pick of the Essex bowlers.

In reply, Essex were 88-4 at the close needing  353 runs to win.

Worcestershire v Lancashire


Worcestershire started the day on 361-4, leading Lancashire by 478 runs with 6 wickets remaining.

Worcestershire 247 (Daryl Mitchell 118; Jordan Clark 4-56, Joe Mennie 4-53) and 484-7 (Daryl Mitchell 163, Martin Guptill 111,Tom Fell 62, Ben Cox 58*)

Lancashire 130 (Ed Barnard 5-34) & 269-4 ( Keaton Jennings 136*, Alex Davies 64)

Worcestershire declared on 484-7 and in reply, Lancashire were 269-4, thanks to a fantastic knock by Keaton Jennings 136*, needing 333 runs to win tomorrow with 6 wickets in hand.

Hampshire v Yorkshire

At the start of play today Hampshire were 245-3 with Jimmy Adams 133* and Tom Alsop 62*

Yorkshire 350 (Gary Ballance 109 ,Harry Brook 79; Dale Steyn 5-66) & 91-2

Hampshire 443 (Jimmy Adams 147,Tom Alsop 62, Gareth Berg 84*; Jack Brooks 5-124)

Hampshire were bowled out by Yorkshire for 443 with Gareth Berg 84* and the tail end wagging - Kyle Abbott and Dale Steyn both in the runs.

At the close, Yorkshire were 91-2 , trailing Hampshire by 2 runs, with 8 wickets remaining.
