The South Australian Scorpions have stormed home with the bat to claim a vital six-wicket victory over NSW at Karen Rolton Oval.

Player of the Match Maddie Penna was sublime as the Scorpions chased down the required 279 runs with just three balls to spare, crunching an unbeaten century to get South Australia over the line.

Supported brilliantly by Josie Dooley (64 off 84) and Jemma Barsby (73* off 62), Penna finished with 113* from just 115 balls to ensure the Scorpions maintained their unbeaten WNCL campaign and a place in the upper echelons of the standings.

Earlier in the day, young quick Kate Peterson starred with the ball, taking 4-56 from her ten overs, including the key wickets of Saskia Horley, Anika Learoyd and Sammy Jo Johnson.

Amanda-Jade Wellington continued her prolific summer, collecting 3-55 from her spell, while Brooke Harris collected a pair of wickets as NSW were bowled out for 278.

Learoyd (131 off 128) was near unstoppable for NSW, hitting a blistering century to have the visitors on the front foot early in the contest.

South Australia and NSW will do battle again on Saturday, with the second fixture of the double header scheduled to begin at 10am at Karen Rolton Oval.
