The Pakistan selectors on Wednesday have dropped Saeed Ajmal from the squad for the upcoming three-match Test series to be played against Sri Lanka from 17th June onwards as he failed to make an impression with his remodeled action

Misbah-ul-Haq will lead the side whereas Azhar Ali who had an impressive tour of Bangladesh wherein he scored 334 runs in two matches will remain his deputy.

The top-order will comprise of Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmed Shehzad and Azhar with the experienced Younus Khan along with Misbah forming the core of the middle-order.

The bowling attack will be led by Wahab Riaz and Junaid Khan with Yasir Shah and Zulfiqar Babar being the two spinners selected.

Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmed Shehzad, Shan Masood, Azhar Ali (vc), Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Younis Khan, Asad Shafiq, Haris Sohail, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Yasir Shah, Zulfiqar Babar, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan, Imran Khan, Ehsan Adil.

Rahat Ali, Sohaib Maqsood and Sohail Khan who were undergoing rehabilitation from injuries failed to make it in time for selection while Babar Azam, Bilawal Bhatti and Sami Aslam have been left out of the squad that toured Bangladesh.

Chief selector of Pakistan Haroon Rashid stated that the board made a careful consideration of various factors while selecting the best possible team for the tour.

Rashid also adding that the board would select a 16th player in the due course of the series if there is any necessity.

“While selecting the squad, the selection committee considered the following key areas: suitability to play in varied playing conditions, potential to perform at international level, current form and fitness, performance in the previous tours of Bangladesh and recently concluded Pakistan A team's tour of Sri Lanka, and feedback from the team management on the performance of players on Bangladesh tour.

“Fawad Alam, Sami Aslam and some other players were also under consideration but could not be included but they remain on the selectors’ radar.

“Rahat Ali, Sohail Khan and Sohaib Maqsood are still on rehab after sustaining injuries and it is hoped that they would be available for selection in the near future.

“Selection committee has also kept its options open in case of need for the 16th member keeping in mind the extreme weather conditions in Sri Lanka," said Rashid.

Pakistan will be touring Sri Lanka for a three-match Test series followed by a five-match One-Day International series and a two-match Twenty20 International series to be played between 17th June and 1st August.
