Samaraweera to join Bangladesh as batting consultant for England series
Samaraweera, who played 81 Test matches and 53 One-Day Internationals for Sri Lanka between 2001 and 2013, has previously worked as the batting consultant for Australia in June.
BCB president Nazmul Hassan clarified that Samaraweera is presently available only for one series and hinted at a possible contract extension in the future.
“Thilan Samaraweera, the batting specialist, has been hired for the England series as a consultant,” Hassan said.
“We will see if we want to extend him.”
Hasan further revealed that the board was looking to hire a spin-bowling coach and the appointment will be completed ahead of the New Zealand series.
“We are still looking for a spin bowling coach.
“(We will) get the best among those available.
“We hope to appoint one before the New Zealand series.”
Along with the appointment of Samaraweera, BCB has also promoted fielding coach Richard Halsall as the assistant coach to replace Ruwan Kalpage.
BCB terminated Kalpage’s contract last month after he failed to report for duty despite instructions from the board.
