Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Shaharyar Khan has announced his decision to step down from the role in August when his tenure comes to an end.

The 83-year-old was elected unanimously as the chairman of the PCB in August 2014 and was one of the co-founder of the Pakistan Super League tournament. He also had a similar role with the Pakistan board in 2003.

Shaharyar revealed that he had confirmed the decision to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and cited health issue as the reason behind it.

"I have taken the board in confidence and conveyed my decision that I will not continue after our mandate is ending on August 18," Shaharyar told to reporters in Lahore.

"I will not continue after it as chairman or as in any other capacity and it's my decision on the basis of personal and health reasons."

Shaharyar also served as a Foreign Secretary of Pakistan between 1990 and 1994.
