As a big respite to Sri Lanka Cricket, pace bowler Shaminda Eranga has been cleared to bowl by the International Cricket Council (ICC) with immediate effect.

The 31-year-old was reported for a suspect action during Sri Lanka's second Test against Engand in Chester-le-Street in June last year and he subsequently underwent testing at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough.

His ban became effective after the results proved all of Eranga's deliveries exceeded the 15-degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.

However, after reworking on his action and undergoing another reassessment in the ICC accredited centre in Chennai, Eranga was permitted to resume his career.

The news was confirmed by a statement released by the ICC.

"Eranga underwent a re-assessment of his bowling action... with the assessment concluding that the amount of elbow extension in his standard deliveries was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted," the governing body said.

The right arm pacer has featured in 19 apiece of Tests and One-Day Internationals along with three Twenty20 Internationals in which he has snared 81 wickets combined.
