Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow, Cricket Australia has confirmed.

South Australian Tait has a long-standing elbow problem which has worsened recently, requiring surgery which will rule him out of the start of the domestic season.

“Shaun Tait underwent corrective elbow surgery this afternoon for a chronic elbow complaint and his return to cricket will be determined by the speed of his recovery from surgery. It is not anticipated he will be able to play within the next two months," CA doctor Trefor James said in a statement.

Tait, who has retired from first-class cricket, has played three Tests, 25 One-Day Internationals and 17 Twenty20 Internationals for his country.
