The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has upgraded Shoaib Malik's central contract to category A, while off-spinner Saeed Ajmal has been downgraded to Category B.

Malik now features alongside players like Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali.

Ajmal on the other hand, having failed to make an impression with his remodelled action, finds himself in the midst of players like Wahab Riaz, and Yasir Shah in Category B.

In a press release, the PCB confirmed that it has increased the amounts of the monthly retainers and match fee for the players.

Based on the feedback of Pakistan cricketers, the PCB has also decided to restore the system of awarding win bonuses and performance incentives.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announces the award of its Players Central Contracts for the year 2015-16 (July ‘15–June ‘16) to 27 players in four categories," the statement read.

“This bunch is a blend of seasoned players with proven credentials and emerging talent with potential to represent Pakistan across three formats.

“The remunerations – both the monthly retainer as well as match fees – have been increased across the board along with restoring the win bonuses and performance incentives.”

In total, 27 players have been handed central contracts which will last from July 2015 to June 2016, but financial clauses will remain unchanged for the next three years.

As per the clauses agreed between the players and the board, there will be a 10 per cent increment in the monthly retainer for all the categories in the years 2016-17 and 2017-18.

Subsequently Test match fees for the year 2016-17 will be increased by 10 per cent while the One-Day International match fee will go up by five per cent.

Furthermore, match bonuses will be paid for the number of games won provided a Test or an ODI series is at least drawn, excluding Twenty20 International series.

The players were selected based on the recommendations of the Central Contracts Selection Committee, which was chaired by Zakir Khan (Director, International Cricket Operations) with Haroon Rashid (National Chief Selector) and Waqar Younis (Head Coach) as the members.
