Simmons, Mominul help Rajshahi Kings open account in BPL 2017
Rajshahi Kings 138-2 (Mominul 63no) beat
Rangpur Riders 134-5 (Bopara 54no) by eight wickets
9th game, Bangladesh Premier League, Dhaka
Lendl Simmons and Mominul Haque scored half-centuries as Rajshahi Kings registered their maiden win in the ongoing season of the Bangladesh Premier League against Rangpur Riders in Dhaka.
Chasing 135 to win, Simmons (53) and Mominul (63 not out) got the team off to a cautious start, scoring 11 runs off the first three overs.
Simmons stepped up the accelerator scoring three boundaries in the next two overs while Mominul too joined the onslaught with a six and a four in the final over of the powerplay to take the score to 48 for naught.
There was no respite for the Riders whatsoever as the openers went on post 76 runs without losing a wicket at the halfway mark. Mominul was the first to reach his half-century with a six in the 13th over and soon Simmons also followed the suit, completing a 47-ball half-century.
Even though Thisara Perera (1-12) effected a run out of Simmons and castled Malcolm Waller (4) as well, Rajshahi Kings completed the chase in 16.4 overs with eight wickets in hand.
Earlier, Ravi Bopara (54 not out) was the cornerstone of Rangpur Riders's innings as they went on to post 134 for five in the 20 overs. Shahriar Nafees (23) provided some support but the innings hardly had any momentum in it.
