Sri Lanka made it through to the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup with a narrow two-wicket win over Bangladesh in a Group B encounter at the Dubai International Stadium.

After being asked to bat, Bangladesh posted 183 for seven in their 20 overs and in their response Sri Lanka finished on 184 for eight in 19.2 overs.

Earlier, Bangladesh started off confidently. Thanks to a 39 run stand for the second wicket between Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38) and captain Shakib Al Hasan (24). Then a 57 run stand for the fifth wicket between Afif Hossain (39) and Mahmudullah (27) revived the innings. Towards the end of the innings Mosaddek Hossain (24 n.o.: 9b, 4x4) used the long handle to good effect. Bangladesh finished on 183 for seven in their 20 overs. For Sri Lanka the successful bowlers were Chamika Karunaratne (2-32) and Wanindu Hasaranga (2-41).

In their response, Sri Lanka started off cautiously. Then Kusal Mendis took charge of the innings. He got two reprieves first when he survived a caught behind decision owing to a no-ball. Then Mendis was lucky as Bangladesh did not appeal for a caught behind. Mendis added 54 runs for the fifth wicket with captain Dasun Shanaka (45: 33b, 3x4, 2x6). Mendis finished on 60 off 37 balls with four boundaries and three sixes. Towards the end Shanaka fell at a crucial time in the chase. With 26 runs needed off 13 balls, Chamika Karunaratne then took over. But after Karunaratne fell, tailenders Maheesh Theekshana and Asitha Fernando took over the chase. Sri Lanka chased down the target in 19.2 overs to finish on 184 for eight. For Bangladesh the successful bowlers were Taskin Ahmed (2-24) and Ebadot Hossain (3-51).
