SL v Pak, Super 4 Match 6, Asia Cup: Sri Lanka just too good for Pakistan in dress rehearsal

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by five wickets in the final Super four match of Asia Cup 2022 at Dubai International Stadium on Friday night.

Asked to bat, Pakistan were bowled out for 121 in 19.1 overs and in response Sri Lanka chased down the target in 17 overs to finish on 124 for five.

Earlier, Pakistan were well served by a 35 run second wicket stand between captain Babar Azam (30) and Fakhar Azam. The innings was then reduced to 95 for seven in 16 overs. Towards the end Mohammad Nawaz swung the bat around to make 26 off 30 balls with two sixes and one four. Towards the end Pakistan were bowled out for 121 in 19.1 overs. For Sri Lanka the best bowlers were Maheesh Theekshana (2-21) and Pramod Madushan (2-21).

In their chase Sri Lanka lost Kusal Mednsi and Danushka Gunathilaka for ducks to be reduced to two for two. Then there was a face-saving 51 run stand for the third wicket between Pathum Nissanka (55 n.o.: 48b, 5x4, 1x6) and Bhanuka Rajapasa (24). The innings was further helped by a 33 run fifth wicket stand between Nissanka and captain Dasun Shanaka. In the end Sri Lanka chased down the target in 17 overs to finish on 124 for five. For Pakistan the best bowlers were Mohammad Hasnain (2-21) and Haris Rauf (2-19).

Pakistan and Sri Lanka will battle on Sunday for the Asia Cup title.
