India 71-1 (R Sharma 40no)
Fourth Test, Sydney, day two

Steve Smith scored his fourth Test century in as many matches as Australia remained in complete control on day two of the fourth and final Test against India in Sydney.

Smith equalled the record of Sir Don Bradman and Jacques Kallis in achieving four consecutive centuries in a Test series having already scored centuries in each of the first three Tests.

He made 117 in 208 balls and there were also runs for Shane Watson (81), Shaun Marsh (73) and Joe Burns (58) before Australia declared on 572 for seven.

Ryan Harris plundered 25 in nine balls and Brad Haddin was unbeaten on nine.

Mohammad Shami plugged away to return five for 115 while Umesh Yadav (1-137) and Ravichandran Ashwin (1-142) were the other wicket-takers.

In reply, India lost Murali Vijay to the third ball of the innings when he was caught behind by Haddin off Mitchell Starc for a duck.

KL Rahul, unbeaten on 31 in 71 balls, and Rohit Sharma, not out on 40 in 76, then guided India to stumps on 71 for one.

Trailing the series 2-0, they still trail by 501 runs and the follow-on target remains some way off.
