Somerset resist late Hampshire charge defending 204 runs
Somerset 204-9 (Gregory 43) beat
Hampshire 190 (McManus 34) by 14 runs
South Group, Natwest T20 Blast, Taunton
After blistering knocks from Lewis Gregory and Steven Davies set the tone for Somerset's 204 run total, their bowlers managed to held their nerve in restricting Hampshire to 190 runs as they completed a 14 run victory in the South Group Natwest T20 Blast in Taunton.
Somerset won the toss and decided to bat first. Gregory (43) and Davies (32) looked positive from the outset as they amassed 71 runs from just 28 deliveries before the latter was dismissed by Shahid Afridi (1-43).
Gregory looked confident in his 20 ball cameo that had nine boundaries but soon became Gareth Berg's (3-45) first wicket of the innings.
Jim Allenby (37) struggled to get going while James Hildreth (25) failed to convert his start as Somerset were put in some trouble but cameos from Roelof van der Merwe (15) and Michael Leask (13) ensured the hosts finished their innings at 204 for nine.
In the chase, Rilee Rossouw (2) fell early but James Vince (33) lit the stage on fire with his 15 ball cameo. Despite, best efforts from Michael Carberry (30), Lewis McManus (34) and Berg (31), Hampshire managed only 190 runs before they were bowled out in 19.3 overs.
Gregory was named the player of the match for setting up the victory.
