South Africa look to extend Test ranking lead in Bangladesh series
Leaders of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings, South Africa, will look to extend their lead, when they take on Bangladesh in a two-match Test series, which kicks off on 21st July in Chittagong.
South Africa, currently with 130 points, will gain two points if they win the series 2-0, whereas they will stay the same with a 1-0 series win, but will lose five points if the series is drawn 1-1.
The ninth ranked Bangladesh with 41 points, will gain 12 points if they manage a 2-0 victory, with a 1-0 series win giving them 10 points.
On the other hand, a 0-2 loss will see Bangladesh lose a point while a 0-1 loss will give them one point, with a 1-1 draw will fetch them six points.
In the absence of AB de Villiers, who is not available for the series, the highest ranked South African batsman is the third placed Hashim Amla, while Faf du Plessis comes in next at number 18 in the ICC Player Rankings.
Dale Steyn, who is on the verge of claiming 400 test wickets, leads the bowler rankings, alongside Vernon Philander and Morne Morkel, who slot in at number seven and number nine respectively.
Shakib al Hasan, who is the top-ranked all-rounder, is the only Bangladesh bowler to feature in the top 20 ranks, coming in at number 15.
Both the teams will however retain their pre-series rankings, notwithstanding the outcome of this series.
